Saw palmetto, also known as Sabal, resembles a small palm tree with large leaves and deep red-blackberries, and is indigenous to the North American Atlantic coast. This herb was used historically by American Indians to encourage weight gain and appetite, and as a remedy for urinary tract disorders. Saw Palmetto is a fantastic source of phytosterols and fatty acids, the two major active components responsible for Saw Palmetto's amazing properties. Saw Palmetto extract has been shown to inhibit the conversion of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thought to be responsible for enlargement of the prostate, and may actually help with the dissolution of testosterone.
